Read this before you trade

Trading foreign exchange (forex) and contracts for difference (CFDs) carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for everyone. You could lose some or all of the money you put in. Do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose.

Leverage

Leveraged products let you open a position larger than the money you deposit. Leverage magnifies gains and losses alike. A small market move against you can cause a large loss relative to your deposit, and losses can happen quickly.

Market risk

Prices move because of economic data, central bank decisions, politics, news, market sentiment and many other factors, and they can move sharply with little warning. Past performance is not a reliable guide to future results.

Gaps and slippage

Prices can jump between one level and the next, especially around major news or when markets open after a weekend. Your order may be executed at a worse price than you expected, and stop-loss orders do not guarantee a fill at the stated level.

Margin calls and closeouts

If your account balance falls below the required margin, positions may be closed automatically, often at a loss, and you may be asked to deposit more funds. Monitor your account and keep enough free funds to support open positions.

Liquidity

In fast or thinly traded markets it may be hard to open or close a position at your chosen price, or at all.

Costs

Spreads, commissions, overnight financing (swaps) and other fees reduce your returns and can turn a small gain into a loss. Make sure you understand every cost before you trade.

Technology and connectivity

Online trading depends on internet connections, devices, software and third-party systems. Interruptions, delays and errors can occur and may affect your ability to trade or manage positions.

Currency risk

If your account currency differs from the currency of an instrument, exchange-rate movements can affect your results independently of the trade itself.

Your responsibility

Only you can decide whether trading suits your goals, experience and finances. Consider independent advice if you are unsure. Nothing on this website is a recommendation to buy or sell any product.
